One month to go!

We fly to Madrid on September 27th.  I work right up to the last day; and then off for 6 weeks for this adventure, this pilgrimage across Spain.  The past six months or so of training and preparation for the Camino have already been life changing.  I have put in a lot of miles and I have met so many people while out on my training walks that have been interested in what I am doing. I'm pretty sure most of them probably think I'm crazy! However, I'm hoping I've inspired them to follow their own dreams in some way.  The Camino has given me a good reason to talk to neighbors about something different besides news or the weather.  I love seeing the spark light up in their eyes when I tell them about the Camino.  As I learn more and more about this thing I've decided to do, I've realized how really powerful it is. It's so much more than just a long backpacking trek across Spain to see the sights. I always knew that was the case, but I don't think I understood the true importance of it.  It's important to me to share my experience with you, and to fan that spark inside each of you into a flame.

As the big trip keeps getting closer; I feel like I'm still on schedule; right where I should be.  Although to be honest; I could work a little harder; prepare a little more.  Be a little more diligent in my efforts.  I have been walking nearly every day now for the past 4 months, sure I've taken a day off here in there but right now I have other things to do in my life than walk the Camino.  In one month, all that will change. Once we arrive in Madrid after a stopover in New York, we will take a taxi to the train station, then a 3 hour train ride to Pamplona and then a shuttle to St. Jean Pied-du-Port, France.  The trek begins the next day. My days will be devoted to walking, eating and sleeping.  No job to go to, no house to clean, no real responsibilities except to put one foot in front of the other and move forward, no straying from the path and no turning back!  I envision arriving in Santiago de Compostela  after 35 days of walking, on November 6th.   As you follow us on this adventure, take some time to imagine where or what you will do to follow your dreams and then make plans to do it as we would love to follow you someday!

Thank you for following and providing some words of encouragement along the way, I'm sure we will be needing some!

  4. You both have and continue to inspire me. What you are about to do is so much more than heel, toe, heel toe. It is a journey of 500 miles on dirt and through your soul. You will be accomplishing something that at one time you probably thought was impossible. This path will change you in ways you cannot even imagine. Your thoughts will take you places… and let them. Enjoy each step on the path and each step to the inner most part of your soul. This is something you will remember for a very long time so enjoy the journey. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it. God bless.

  8. So glad to see that you arrived! AND...I'm feeling a little bad that I gave Lee such a hard time about cramming everything into her backpack! She was right about the likelihood that her luggage wouldn't make it! Sorry buddy!

    Thanks for keeping us posted!
